The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has officially endorsed the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, as the ECOWAS candidate for the Chairmanship of the African Union (AU) Commission. This pivotal endorsement comes at a time when the continent seeks strong, experienced leadership to navigate its challenges and future ambitions.
At the recent ECOWAS Summit held in Abuja, member states of the regional bloc expressed overwhelming support for President Mahama’s candidacy, recognizing his extensive experience in governance, diplomacy, and pan-Africanism. The endorsement was a testament to President Mahama’s contributions to the development of Africa, both during his tenure as President of Ghana and through his continuous advocacy for regional integration and continental cooperation.
His vision for the African Union Commission includes a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous continent, with a focus on strengthening economic integration, advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and tackling key challenges and future ambitions.
